Cremation and Funeral Alternatives was founded by Stephen Lohrmann in 1994 to provide a low-cost alternative to traditional funeral homes. Since then, locally owned CAFA has become one of the fastest growing funeral establishments in the area, serving hundreds of Maryland families.
STEPHEN D. LOHRMANN, PRESIDENT AND MORTICIAN
Since receiving his mortuary science degree in 1982, Stephen has shown a rare combination of professional skill and personal devotion to helping people cope with death. Featured in newspapers throughout the country, Stephen has made CAFA a model for how funeral homes can meet people's needs in today's society. He and his staff look forward to helping you by providing a choice you can live with.
Please note: Stephen and his staff are available to provide educational—not sales—programs for local groups on death-related topics, including Funeral Planning and Advance Directives, Funeral Roles and Rituals, and other issues. Just call or email CAFA if you want to know more.

FACILITIES
CAFA’s main facility, located at 8717 Green Pastures Drive in Towson, can accommodate private gatherings of up to 45 people. Parking is limited, so carpooling is encouraged. Public gatherings may be held at churches, cemeteries, and other locations. For embalming, CAFA uses its subsidiary funeral home, Rapp Funeral and Cremation Services, in Silver Spring. Cremations are performed at CAFA’s other subsidiary, Chesapeake Crematory Inc. (CCI), in Beltsville. If you arrange a cremation through CAFA, you also may arrange to attend the cremation at CCI for a funeral service or a witnessing if you so desire.
